About Shooting Star Theatre
“A cozy and inviting new space”
Off-Off Broadway Review
At
Shooting Star Theatre, Montauk Theatre Productions (MTP)
provides a friendly and open space for training, rehearsals,
workshops and performances, as a community resource in the
Downtown Manhattan area for the development of the performing
arts as well as ongoing support for other local arts
organizations.
Special events
presented by MTP have included: the world premiere, at John Drew
Theatre in East Hampton, of "Scenery", a new play written by Ed
Dixon, directed by Frank Dunlop and starring Marilyn Sokol and
Clive Revill; "Class Mothers", a new play by Eric Weinberger
starring Priscilla Lopez, presented at the Montauk Yacht Club
prior to it's Off-Broadway run last year; two readings in New
York City of "Come Up 'N See Me", a musical about Mae West by
Bonnie Lee Sanders and Ellen Schwartz, starring KT Sullivan; and
the development and initial production of the murder mystery
musical "Split Ends" by Bonnie Lee Sanders and Mark Barkan prior
to its Off-Broadway run last Spring and Summer.
We have presented
special readings and musical evenings in association with the
South Street Seaport Museum as part of an ongoing effort to
support the revitalization of cultural activities in Downtown
New York after September 11 - these programs have included
"America The Beautiful" by Patricia LaRose (presented in
association with Melba LaRose and NYArtists Unlimited); Sally
Sherwood with Woody Regan in "Good-bye, My Lady Love"; Marilyn Sokol in her Fanny Brice show, "Me and My Fanny"; a new musical
revue, "The New York Music Hall Songbook"; and, in association
with the Richard Allen Center for Culture and Art (Shirley J.
Radcliffe, Producing Director and Imani, Artistic Director), we
have welcomed the RACCA Seaport Salon which has presented such
new works as "Welcome Home, Marian Anderson"; "Linda Means To
Wait"; "Masque" and "Joseph"; and "Medea"; as well as a series
of new play readings and Sunday jazz evenings.
